Beta

Image
Sources,   Google images ; In this week's blog, I will be discussing our Beta for the game and what is working and what is going wrong as well as how I'm meeting the targets that were set in the plan for me. This was an important week for the multimedia project as we had an opportunity to showcase all of the work that we have done so far and get some much-needed feedback on it. I think that everything went okay for what we were going for when presenting. Although perhaps we should have more visuals to convey our idea for our game.   My role was 'Asset management' under the level design team. Each week I would collect possible assets that would be used in the game and in the previous week I calculated a possible budget if one was needed. I put the price of every asset that costs money in the list document too. I have managed to stay on track will the targets that were set up for me through the use of the calendar each week.  What is working is the ...

Alpha

Image
In today's blog I will be discussing the current development of my Alpha game, so far I have an 'Introduction' scene and a level that follows one characters' journey from start to end. My game is slowly beginning to get to where it should be. I have recently created an 'Ending' scene to this level also. I will discuss the challenges I faced creating this 'Alpha' game, what worked and didn't work! Issues include; the 'Start' button not appearing or functioning and and the scenes not building or playing in sequence. When I go into 'play' mode, the scenes don't appear in the correct sequence. However, all the dialogue and interactions between the characters are completed for this level, through the use flowcharts. I will include screenshots of my flowcharts, below. I am hoping to create at least three levels for this game but in order to do this, I will need to solve the technical problems above. On completion of  the development...

First Playable

Image
Hey Guys!, Feeling Time Pressured Sources; Google images ; For today's blog I will be discussing my progress with the development of my game. Unfortunately I'm behind because I was busy doing other assignments all week and week end. The deadline for the group project is for today too. Therefore I haven't made much progress on my game. I have worked on it since the last blog but I'm still at the early stages of its development.         I hope that by the next blog regarding its development I will be much further along and I will be able to show you many screenshots displaying its design and functionality. I am having some difficulties with it such as getting it to work and show up in the game play mode. As I'm behind I hope that my game will be good enough to be finished in time. I can't wait to show you my progress when it's good enough to be showed.  (Update) I have made some good progress with my game so far. I have an intro scene screen and a...

Prototype

Image
Welcome back to my blog!, So I have finally started building my prototype for my game and at first I was really excited to finally begin making some progress. Unfortunately I went to go and download the 'Fungus Plugin' from the asset store and I did that and everything went perfectly fine. I thought that it would be easier for me to use the Unity Tutorials project scenes as my guide for beginning my prototype because I didn't have much time to do this. When I opened up the 'Fungus Plugin' in Unity and I clicked on a folder and I drop an asset into my scene, it deleted my entire scene and everything that was in it. I'm not sure what to do, should I try to restore it by windows restore? I tried exiting Unity all together without 'saving' on purpose and then open the previous version. It didn't work, on opening the file again, the scene was empty. My progress from my previous Unity Tutorials was gone as well as any progress I had made on my prototype....

Final Game Design Document

Image
I have completed my final GDD (Game Design Document). My previous GDD didn't have enough detailed information in it where I would be able to hand it over to games developer and programmer. It would have not been enough information for my game to be produced and made the way that I wanted. Therefore I updated my DunDoc . All of the required information for my game will be in my GDD DunDoc. There is now a game architecture feature in my GDD as well as any other information that was needed. Screenshot of my DunDoc GDD

Game Design Document

I used  'DunDoc' to create my 'GDD' (Game Design Document) for my game project and it was a very helpful way to organize my thoughts and ideas for my game idea visually. I felt that visually expressing my game was indescribably useful and effective to me.           In my 'DunDoc' 'GDD' , you will find all the information that I am thinking on to design my game. You will discover information on the design elements, characters information and various game elements etc. I hope that by doing this that it will give you a better understanding of what my overall game idea will look like. Game Vision Statement

Image
Welcome back to my blog! Today, I will be discussing my chosen game genre and what the game-play of my game will be like. The genre that I chosen for my game is a children's interactive educational story based game. The style of the game will be simplistic yet, cute meaning that I will have 'cute' looking characters in my game to appeal to children. The game will be colourful and 'animated' looking meaning, it won't have a realistic style to it. I believe choosing this type of style will appeal to my target audience for my game. My game will be story-based which means that the player will choose from a list of choices in response to for example; a question or a route that they may take.                There will be many interesting tasks and choices that the player must make in order to not bore the player resulting in the player quitting the game before completing it. The game will be very interactive which will  hopefully keep ...

Game Idea Research

Image
In this blog I will be discussing my game research idea. Last week I posted a blog where I brainstormed some different game ideas. I will be talking about one of those ideas today and I chose a game idea that I taught I would enjoy working on for the rest of this semester. I will also be focusing on the three game mechanics idea that I know will work well for this assignment. The game idea I am going to be focusing on will be a interactive storybook game for children, my third game idea from the 'Game Brainstorm' blog. Game Outline: This game encourages imagination, creative ability, storytelling in young children.  Children choose from a range of characters or make their own character from shapes supplied; i.e; "round head", "big eyes", "big nose", "black hair". They are also given unusual shapes that can make monsters or aliens! e.g. "horns", "wings" etc. They then get to choose from a theme i.e. "Ou...

Game Brainstorm

Image
A puzzle game which is what one of my ideas is. Source Link I will be discussing my four game ideas that I would like to create. 1). Puzzle Game: The first game idea is a puzzle based game that is quick, simple and addictive. Something that is similar to 'Tetris'. My idea is based on a mosaic tile game, where the player has to swipe the correct tiles in the correct order to complete a graphic. I was inspired by the cheap puzzles that you would get in Christmas crackers! With every level the player gets more tiles to ensemble and your put against the clock. A humorous graphic may appear when the player has completed the puzzle to add a funny element to the game. This style of game is quite addictive with players. As the levels become more difficult the game becomes increasingly more tricky to master. The game first starts off with 2-D tiles on the easier levels that you just have to swipe it around. Then you move onto more difficult 3-D tiles that y...
